GH's Michael Sutton reprising the character of Stone Cates

In what's being described as an emotional blast from the past, General Hospital is bringing back Michael Sutton in the role of Stone Cates.

Longtime General Hospital fans are about to experience a serious trip down memory lane because the ABC soap opera is bringing back the beloved character of Stone Cates.

Michael Sutton is reprising his role as Robin Scorpio's (Kimberly McCullough) deceased ex for a story arc set to play out this August, TV Line reports.

"Sonny & Stone once again like the good old days," Sutton shared on Instagram. "Always a pleasure to work with my brother @mauricebenard."

The character is quite famous to daytime viewers, having tragically died of an AIDS-related illness in 1995 in one of the genre's most acclaimed storylines. No information on exactly how Stone will reappear has been released, but its reportedly tied into "a great time of crisis" for Stone's former guardian/brother figure, Sonny (Maurice Benard).

The actor, who was nominated for an Emmy for the role he played from 1993 to 1995, briefly returned to Port Charles in the fall of 2010 when Robin was trapped in a well and had a hallucination of her former love. But that's not the only time Stone has been a topic of conversation. GH has kept the memory of Stone alive with its annual Nurses' Ball. In fact, McCullough's Robin gave a moving speech during the 2016 event that had millions of GH fans across the nation in tears.

"I got choked up during Robin's speech and in no way, shape or form was I planning on that," McCullough shared at the time. "I was standing there and everybody was looking at me, and although most of the people were new, there were some anchors that I had in the audience, like Finola Hughes [Anna Devane] and Lynn [Herring, Lucy Coe]. I looked at Lynn and it was like I was transported back 20 years, and I was like, 'Wow. Lucy was such a big part of the Robin/Stone story, which was the impetus for the ball."

Celebrating men who have embraced their grey.

Every soap has at least one, the older gentleman with a hint of grey in his hair or beard, sometimes covered by color, other times a full out mane of silver. The silver fox, the man who makes women's and some men's hearts skip a beat, some having done so for decades before they attained and embraced their grey. Soaps.com decided to take a closer look at some of these distinguished gentlemen, their history, and how they stay in shape.

General Hospital

Ryan-Kevin-twins-jon-Lindstrom-gh-pc-jp Jon Lindstrom has played Dr. Kevin Collins and his psychotic and now deceased twin brother Dr. Ryan Chamberlain on “GH” and its spinoff “Port Charles” since 1992. The doctor has always had touches of grey on his temples, and has sometimes sported a beard with a dash of salt and pepper sprinkled throughout. When he’s not portraying the good doc on screen, Lindstrom stays fit through his hobbies, which include skiing, scuba diving, and surfing. He’s also a proficient martial artist and a lifelong drummer.

Maurice Benard joined “GH” in 1993 as alleged mobster Sonny Corinthos. The part was only supposed to last six months, but Benard recently celebrated 24 years on the soap. The actor has touches of grey on his sides, and we suspect a full head of silver lies underneath, but is hidden by the products used to slick back his hair for that gangster look. Benard keeps fit as a boxer, which along with the actor's bipolar disorder, has been written into Sonny’s character on the show.

Julian-beard-GH-ABC William deVry came onto the “GH” scene in 2013 as media mogul Derek Wells, but was soon revealed to be the long thought dead Julian Jerome. Julian’s character often sports a close tight haircut, but lately we’ve noticed some flecks of silver peeking through, especially when he lets his beard grow out. deVry keeps fit and comes from a long line of athletes. His father lettered in several sports in college and his maternal grandmother held 26 world records in track and field.

Rick Ravanello returns as Garvey, the mobster with a vendetta against Sonny, on July 27. Rick Ravanello previously appeared as Garvey in June, as reported by Soaps.com. His character Garvey was taken down by Jason in Puerto Rico last we saw. Ravanello has appeared in several television shows, including "Longmire," "Weeds," "Criminal Minds," and "NCIS."

As Soaps.com reported on May 20, though “Days” actor Blake Berris filled in as Spinelli on General Hospital back in January, Bradford Anderson will be briefly returning to the soap for a few episodes. Look for him to reprise the role on Wednesday June 14, and it looks as though we may see him again this summer from the Twitter post "General Hospital" uploaded of Anderson with Kirsten Storms (Maxie) on July 25.

Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) will be off screen for awhile due to the actress taking her annual summer vacation according to Soap Opera Digest. Soaps.com has reported on Finola Hughes taking time off from General Hospital in the past for the same reason. On the show, Anna learned that Robin was in labor, so her character has traveled to L.A. to be with her daughter and newest grandchild.

Updated July 28: Soaps.com has learned that Michael Sutton's Stone will appear in scenes with Sonny (Maurice Benard). In the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest the actor stated, "I came back in 2010 to do some scenes with Kimberly [McCullough], but this was the first chance to do posthumous scenes with Sonny and Stone."

On July 13 it was announced that Michael Sutton was set to return to "General Hospital" as Stone Cates. Sutton played the role from 1993 until 1995. Soaps.com readers may recall that Stone was involved in General Hospital's first HIV/AIDS related storyline with Robin Scorpio. Stone passed away from the disease in 1995, but made a brief return in 2010. The character appeared as a vision that Robin had while trapped in a well. According to TVLine, Sutton will reprise the role in August and his return will be connected to a crisis involving Sonny. Since leaving "GH," Sutton has been working as a real estate agent in the West Hollywood and Malibu areas of California.

Tyler Christopher has joined "Days of our Lives" in a secret role.

Soaps.com previously reported on the rumor that he was headed to the show, along with some speculation on who Tyler Christopher might play on Days of our Lives. EW has confirmed the casting news. The actor, who has since confirmed and played Nikolas Cassadine on "General Hospital," began taping last week and will begin airing in early 2018. Tyler Christopher won a Daytime Emmy in 2016 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Daytime Drama for his role on "GH."

This comes hot on the heels of the news that Louise Sorel is returning to Days of our Lives as Vivian Alamain, leading to further speculation that Christopher could be playing her nephew Nicholas. Nicholas Alamain was last played by Cody Longo in 2011.
