Steve Burton is back in black, or is he?
Updated August 7: Soaps.com readers have been eagerly awaiting more details on Steve Burton’s upcoming return to “General Hospital.” Executive Producer Frank Valentini spoke with TVLine and promised the arrival of someone who looks like the old Jason, pre-facial surgery, will definitely shake things up in Port Charles. “Jason’s life affects, like, 30 people on the show. There is almost nobody who won’t be affected by his return. That whole paradigm - ‘Who’s the real Jason? How will people react to him?’ I find to be very interesting, and it will be fun for the audience.” In response to many different theories out there on what will bring Burton’s character to Port Charles, Valentini stated, “No one has guessed right. They think we’re making it up as we go along, when it’s all been laid out.” How long will Burton be on the show? Valentini went to say that the effects will last, “for probably about nine months, before we settle into the next big thing.”
On July 27 Burton posted one of his all-time favorite photos (below) from his "GH" days with the caption, "One of my favorite shots from the @generalhospitalabc set years ago! Will I play this guy again???? Tune in to see #gh #jasonornot #boom #mustsee." Though his first air date has not been released, Soaps.com has learned that Billy Miller, who currently plays Jason, will appear in Burton's upcoming storyline, as confirmed by head writers Shelly Altman and Jean Passanante to Soap Opera Digest.
On June 29, Soaps.com was excited to learn that Steve Burton is returning to General Hospital. Burton played the character of Jason Quartermaine/Jason Morgan off and on from 1991 until 2012, but beginning in 2014 Billy Miller took over the role of Jason Morgan. This has led fans to wonder how Burton will be brought back, and as who. Recently, Jason's wife Sam has been having delirious episodes where she has felt a danger to her family, had visions of Jason covered in blood, and delusions of Sonny vowing to take Jason away from her. Many fans believe Burton may only appear as part of Sam's visions. Others believe the show may bring Burton back and introduce a mystery as to who is the real Jason Morgan. In promising to get out of the mob, Sonny and Carly discussed his options, one being finding a successor to take over Sonny's business. Sonny noted that the old Jason would have been perfect and done it in a heartbeat, but Jason has changed and almost is an entirely different person now. Given the character's history with alternate identities and amnesia, a two-Jason storyline could work. Take a look back and refresh your memory regarding some of Jason's history and his bouts with amnesia and brain injuries.
Jason's first brain injury.
Jason Quartermaine was the son of Alan Quartermaine and his mistress Susan Moore, but was raised by Alan's wife Monica. He grew up in the lap of luxury of the Quartermaine house, and was the favored son. Jason was rich, a popular athlete, and a preppy. Jason-brain-injury-GH-PS In 1995 he was involved in a car accident caused by his brother A.J., who was drunk at the time, which left him with brain damage and total amnesia. Jason cut himself off from most of his family, except for his sister Emily and his grandmother Lila, and took Lila's maiden name Morgan for his own surname. He became an enforcer for Sonny Corinthos and rose to be his right hand man, which put him in many dangerous situations over the years.
Jason faces another bout of amnesia and a deadly aneurysm.
Jason soon befriended Carly Benson, who became pregnant with A.J.'s child. He agreed to pose as the baby's father to help Carly, and soon Michael was born. Sam-Jason-Bike-GH-HWWhile A.J. eventually learned the truth, Carly, who later married Sonny Corinthos, raised Michael as Sonny's son. Jason served as a second father to the boy. Later, Sonny began having an affair with Sam McCall, and she became pregnant. In an interesting turn of events, Jason pretended to be the father of Sam's baby so that Carly wouldn't learn the truth about Sonny's infidelity. When Sam's child was stillborn, Jason helped her deal with the loss and the two fell in love. However, Jason's dangerous life as a mob enforcer caused him to once again deal with a bout of amnesia. In spite of losing his memory, he fell in love with Sam again. Sam and Robin eventually convinced him to take an experimental drug to regain his memory. While it worked, the drug left him with a brain aneurysm that would kill him in due time. Jason accepted this and planned to live his last days out with Sam in Hawaii. However, Robin Scorpio and Patrick Drake were able to operate on him and save his life.
Sam's mother Alexis disapproved of Jason and Sam's relationship and guilted Jason into leaving her after she was almost killed due to Jason's work. Sam turned to Ric Lansing for comfort, while Jason turned to Liz Webber. Liz-Jason-hospital-GH-HW Jason and Liz had sex and later Liz gave birth to their son Jake. Things didn't last between them, and Liz returned to her ex Lucky Spencer. When Jason's father Alan had a heart attack and died during a hostage crises at the Metro Court, Jason began to realize he spent too many years distant from his family and began to forge a relationship with Monica and his grandfather Edward Quartermaine. Meanwhile, Jason's relationship with Sonny went through several rough patches, with Jason even taking over Sonny's business for a time being. However, when Michael and Kristina ran away together to Mexico, Jason and Sam went after them and the two rekindled their relationship. They would go on to have a son, Daniel Edward Morgan, named in part after Jason's grandfather. Their happiness was not to last though, as Jason was shot by Cesar Faison on the docks, kicked into the river, and his body was never recovered.
Jason returns from the dead, with amnesia again and a new face.
Two years after Jason was presumed dead, Victor Cassadine had kidnapped Robin, to who he revealed that Jason was alive, but on cryogenically frozen. Helena Cassadine had made a deal with Caesar Faison and took possession of Jason's body after Caesar shot him. Victor and Helena wanted Robin to find a way to save Jason, which could then be used to bring Stavros Cassadine back to life. Liz-Jason-Jake-GH-HW Robin succeeded in bringing Jason back, and she and Jason fled Victor's compound, but were pursued by Helena and her men. Another car accident left Jason disfigured and needing plastic surgery. When he awoke with a reconstructed face he had no memory, but found himself drawn to Liz and the name Jake. He took the name Jake Doe, and he and Liz began a friendship that turned into a romance. However Liz's jealous ex-husband Ric Lansing hired a con-woman named Hayden Barnes to pose as Jake's wife, though their scheme was eventually exposed. When Liz learned from Nikolas Cassadine who Jake really was, she chose to keep his identity a secret out of fear of losing him again to Sam. Later, Jason's friends Carly and Damian Spinelli figured out his true identity and revealed it, and Nikolas and Liz were busted for keeping the secret for their own benefit.
Jason discovers he has missing years.
Jason found his true identity, but struggled to reclaim his memories with Sam. He eventually did, but Helena reared her ugly head again to cause problems. Jason and Liz learned their son Jake, who they believed had died in a drunk driving accident caused by Luke Spencer, was alive and had been living with Helena on Cassadine Island. Sam-Jason-illness-GH-CDFor the sake of their son the two worked together and reforged their friendship, though it took Sam much longer to forgive Liz. Recently though, Liz and Jason learned Helena had brainwashed Jake while he was on Cassadine Island to unleash a deadly nerve toxin, and that Helena had also brainwashed and used Jason as a soldier. This revelation indicated that Jason was not always in a cryogenic chamber as he was reintroduced to Robin. Viewers have been left wondering what Jason did those two years he was under Helena's control, and what happened to him that Robin had to bring him back to life.
THE RUMORS ARE TRUE
Steve Burton is returning to "General Hospital," as reported via a commercial break during today’s episode on ABC. Burton played the role of Jason Morgan from 1995 until 2012 on the soap opera. Billy Miller took over the part in 2014. After departing "GH," Steve Burton played Dylan McAvoy on The Young and the Restless beginning in 2013, but left in early 2017. From the moment he announced his plans to leave "Y&R" in late 2016, rumors of Steve Burton's return to General Hospital began to circulate. Soaps.com will keep you updated as soon as an air date for Burton and character information is made available
General Hospital's Steve Burton Returns: 'There Is Almost Nobody Who Won't Be Affected,' Says Soap Boss
By Matt Webb Mitovich / August 7 2017, 7:26 AM PDT
As one might guess, Steve Burton‘s return to ABC’s General Hospital “is going to shake everything up,” executive producer Frank Valentini promises — especially since Billy Miller is currently filling the role of Jason Morgan, for which Burton won his first Emmy back in 1998.
Following an Emmy-winning run on rival sudser The Young and the Restless, Miller joined GH in 2014 as, we were told, Jason, whose appearance was altered by post-car crash facial surgeries.
Or was it?
Valentini of course won’t confirm whom Burton is playing, but says that the arrival of someone who at the very least looks like the old Jason is sure to cause double takes.
“Jason’s life affects, like, 30 people on the show. There is almost nobody who won’t be affected by his return,” the EP told TVLine at ABC’s summer TCA party. “That whole paradigm — ‘Who’s the real Jason? How will people react to him?’ — I find to be very interesting, and it will be fun for the audience.”
Speaking of the soap’s passionate viewers, Valentini says that despite having myriad theories about what exactly is going on hurled and tweeted his way, “No one has guessed right. They think we’re making it up as we go along, when it’s all been laid out.”
Burton’s return trip to Port Charles began about four months ago, says Valentini. “When we knew that he was available and interested, we started to brainstorm ideas about what we wanted to do.” Eventually latching onto one particular story idea, “We thought, ‘That’s interesting, that’ll work, and that will fit in with what we’ve got going,’ so we just ran with it.
“We’re really excited to work with Steve, because he’s a really important part of the show.”
As fans of ABC’s defunct One Life to Live know, Valentini has been down a similar road before, having brought fan favorite Roger Howarth back to the canvas after Todd Manning had been recast/his face “changed” with Trevor St. John. Any lessons learned? “Yes, absolutely,” he says. “The thing about being an EP for as long as I have is you learn what not to do, and I try never to make mistakes twice. Not that I haven’t made them twice, but I try to learn from my mistakes.”
Burton himself has said that he will be back on GH for “a while” — while Valentini says that the effects of the encore will be felt “for probably about nine months, before we settle into the next big thing.”
Matriarchs, patriarchs and other soap characters we love.
Every soap has those characters that viewers adore. Sometimes they are family matriarchs and patriarchs, doctors, and even super spies. Soaps.com takes a look at some of our most beloved characters from the soaps past and present.
Lila Quartermaine was the matriarch of the Quartermaines, and often played the role of peacemaker in her family. Her husband and children were constantly feuding over the family fortune and their business, ELQ. Lila was loving and forgiving, and remained with Edward in spite of his wandering eye.
Robert-Scorpio-GH-XJJRobert Scorpio was a spy for the WSB who came to town to stop Mikkos Cassadine and his weather machine. Robert became a fan favorite, teaming up with Luke and Laura Spencer to battle the evil Cassadine. He was a loyal friend, and later became part of a popular super couple with Anna Devane.
Actor Drew Cheetwood took to Instagram to reveal his latest return to "General Hospital" as 'Magic' Milo Giambetti.
There was no word as to his airdate or the duration of his stay. Cheetwood last appeared on GH in May 2016.

BREAKING: William deVry staying put on General Hospital
By Dan J Kroll
Posted Friday, August 11, 2017
After more than a month and a half of uncertainty, General Hospital has confirmed that William deVry will remain on the ABC soap.
General Hospital fans can breathe a sigh of relief: William deVry (Julian Jerome) and the ABC soap have come to terms on a new deal that will keep the fan favorite actor on the show.
Executive Producer Frank Valentini made the announcement in a short -- but to the point -- tweet on Friday evening.
William deVry's status with GH has been up in the air since the actor filmed what could have been his final scenes back in late June. Fans have flooded ABC with tweets, emails, and calls demanding that the network do whatever was necessary to keep deVry on General Hospital. Earlier this week, deVry offered an update, saying that talks were going "very slow" but that he was "confidant" that things would work out. The actor added, "I feel like I'm being reasonable, and we'll get it done."
The news of deVry reaching a deal came out at about the same time that a previously scheduled tweet was sent out on the soapcentral.com twitter feed offering fans an update that talks were slowly progressing. deVry playfully replied, "I think the Deal is done."
He then turned serious and thanked fans for their support. "Thanks 2 fans 4 ur help/support/love," he wrote on Twitter. "Was always confidant, but took awhile eh?!?? Let's enjoy weekend! Hope 2Do interview w more deets soon!"
Details of the agreement between deVry and GH have not been disclosed. soapcentral.com has reached out to a GH spokesperson for comment, and this story will be updated as additional information is released.

Roger Howarth checks back in to GH
by Kambra Clifford
Posted Monday, August 14, 2017
The monthslong Franco drought is finally over in Port Charles. Roger Howarth is back on General Hospital, and his upcoming storyline looks hot, hot, hot.
This week is a big one for General Hospital fans, as Roger Howarth is retuning in the role of Franco after a several-month absence.
The ABC soap's head writer, Shelly Altman, teases that the steamy storyline they've penned for the actor's return will keep viewers' summers sizzling.
"He returns anxious to have romantic moments [with Rebecca Herbst's Liz] and he will not be disappointed -- nor will the 'Friz' fans," she revealed to Soap Opera Digest.
Though Howarth has been offscreen for the past several months, he says viewer love has been stronger than ever.
"I truly appreciate the overwhelming fan support," he shares. "They are truly amazing and I'm grateful."
Howarth took on the role of Franco in 2013. The character was originally played by Hollywood actor James Franco, who exited the soap in 2012.
GH exec on a Rebecca Budig return: "You never know what the future holds"
by Kambra Clifford
Posted Monday, August 14, 2017
General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini opens up about why the show had to let Rebecca Budig (Hayden Barnes) go and whether or not there's a chance she'll return.
Shakespeare said parting is such sweet sorrow, but when it comes to daytime fans having to say goodbye to Rebecca Budig, there's nothing sweet about it. The actress was recently let go from her role as General Hospital's Hayden Barnes -- a move that didn't sit well with many viewers. And the show's executive producer, Frank Valentini, admits it was a rough blow.
“It was really hard. All of her fans are upset, and we empathize,” he told Michael Fairman on the fan favorite's exit. “We brought Rebecca on to the show in the first place. Hayden is a character the audience didn't have a connection, or any familiarity with, but I just knew Rebecca would jump right in with the story we were telling two and a half years ago and make it really work.”
As popular as Budig was, however, the time came for the show to part ways with the actress. But Valentini hints that her story may not be entirely over.
“Rebecca and I are close friends. She had great chemistry with Michael Easton (Hamilton Finn). This story had come to a natural end,” he says, teasing: “Hayden could return... you never know what the future holds.”

Exclusive! Alla Korot To GH
August 15, 2017 1:37PM
Alla Korot, best known to soap fans as ANOTHER WORLD’s Jenna, and who recently appeared on DAYS as Janet, as well as in the prime-time series, GRIMM, has landed a gig on GH. Korot is familiar with the lot on which the soap films: She played GH: NIGHT SHIFT’s Stacy Sloan in 2007.

GENERAL HOSPITAL Comings and Goings — Daytime Vet Alla Korot Joins the Cast!
Soap alum Alla Korot is returning to daytime with a brand new role on GENERAL HOSPITAL! Unfortunately, while the soap has confirmed the casting, they still haven’t revealed who the actress will be playing or when she will first air. But executive producer Frank Valentini posed for a photo with her that the GH Instagram shared with the caption: “So great working with Alla Korot today! Stay tuned for more on her upcoming appearance.”
Korot got her big break in 1990 when she played Jenna Norris on ANOTHER WORLD. After leaving the NBC sudser a few years later, she made some primetime appearances before playing Dr. Allie Doyle Martin on ALL MY CHILDREN from 1997-98. Her most recent soap role was as Janet Bernard in a couple episodes of DAYS OF OUR LIVES in 2016.
Port Charles is nothing new to Korot, who actually visited the burg back in 2007 when she played Stacy Sloan on the GH spinoff, GENERAL HOSPITAL: NIGHT SHIFT! Stacy was the HIV-positive expectant mother who was injured when the ambulance exploded in the first episode of the series. She was treated by Robin Scorpio, and the two women shared an immediate bond over their shared HIV statuses. Sadly, Stacy died shortly after giving birth to her daughter.
Viewers might recognize Korot from her various primetime appearances in series like CASTLE, BONES, NCIS, and THE MENTALIST. Her most recent role was as Dasha Karpushin in a few episodes of the sixth season of GRIMM. The actress turned entrepreneur when she co-created a skin care line called L’uvalla with her husband.
Although GH hasn’t revealed any details regarding the role that Korot will be playing or how long she will be on the soap, we’ll be sure to pass along the info when they do, so stay tuned!
It seems like the headlines are misleading. It sounds like a short-term thing.
When reading the details:
The SID item shows their source as being a post from the generalhospitalabc instagram account
in which Valentini says:
"So great working with @allaluvalla today! Stay tuned for more on her upcoming appearance. #FrankValentini #GH #GeneralHospital #BehindtheScenes"
The "exclusive" Digest item says only that she "has landed a gig on GH" and gives no further details.

She's also recently seen some prime time success as Grimm's Dasha Karpushin.
