Soap Operas Pre-empted During Thanksgiving Holiday

Daytime takes a break for a turkey feast with all of the fixings
.

November is a time where many make yearly plans to celebrate Thanksgiving Day with family and friends. Some travel to join loved ones, many prepare meals to welcome others into their home, and various people, including soap opera stars, lend their time volunteering at local soup kitchens and shelters in order to make the holiday extra special for those in need. Amid the festive preparations, Soaps.com is back to bring readers the annual scheduling changes during the Thanksgiving holiday season, which includes Black Friday.

Please take note of the ABC, CBS and NBC pre-emptions…

Thursday November 23:

"The Bold and the Beautiful" will air a repeat of its Wednesday November 23, 2016 holiday episode. Read Soaps.com’s B&B Recap: The Logans, Spencers and Forresters gather for Thanksgiving where everyone shared something positive about the person sitting next to them.

“Days of our Lives” will not be seen today. The National Dog Show, sanctioned by The American Kennel Club, will air in place of the soap and will benefit various canine-related causes.

"General Hospital" will air a repeat of its Wednesday September 27, 2017 episode. Read Soaps.com's General Hospital Recap: The big Man Landers reveal event when Spinelli tried to warn Maxie about Nathan, Finn and Anna discussed Cassandra in Monaco, and Carly and Bobbie reflected on Nelle.

"The Young and the Restless" will air a repeat episode (TBD) but will be pre-empted on the West Coast due to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Friday November 24:

"The Bold and the Beautiful" will not be seen, due to a CBS Sports event.

“Days of our Lives” will be pre-empted today and replaced with a NHL (National Hockey League) game.

"General Hospital" will not air today, due to a nationwide pre-emption.

"The Young and the Restless” will air a repeat episode (TBD) but will be pre-empted on the West Coast due to CBS Sports coverage of NCAA Football.

Holiday fun fact: The article photo was taken in 2007 on the set of “As the World Turns” during their holiday episode.

Soaps.com wishes those who celebrate a safe and happy holiday. We look forward to returning with daily soap opera recaps on Monday November 27.

45th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards Ceremony Date Announced

It's never too early to start getting excited for daytime's biggest night.

Soaps.com is excited to announce that the 45th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be held on Sunday April 29, 2018. As of yet, since it's still very early in the planning stages, it hasn't been revealed how fans will be able to watch the live ceremony, which will be held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium at 300 E. Green Street in Pasadena, California.

Back in 2015, POP TV televised the 42nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, only to hear a year later that the 43rd annual ceremony would not be aired. Things got a bit better in 2016 when fans were able to watch the 44th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Facebook Live and Twitter/Periscope.

Call for entries for this year's event began on November 1 with the deadline for Drama Performer Pre-Noms clip submissions on December 15. Judging for the Pre-Noms will begin on Tuesday January 9, 2018 and will run through Tuesday January 23, 2018. The pre-nominations will be announced on Thursday January 25, 2018. From there, the final judging will begin on Saturday January 27, 2018 and will end on Saturday February 17, 2018 with the final nominations announced on Wednesday March 21, 2018.

Stay tuned for more information as it's announced. Soaps.com will again be bringing our readers a play by play of the ceremony by tweeting live on Twitter @soapoperafan. Not only will we report the winners as they are announced, we’ll bring fans red carpet interviews and photos of the "Bold and the Beautiful," "Days of our Lives," "General Hospital" and "The Young and the Restless" soap opera actors and everything from pre-ceremony excitement and interviews following the event.

45th Annual Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards Ceremony Date Announced

Coming together to honor behind the scenes achievements
.

Earlier Soaps.com reported details for the upcoming 45th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, including when the annual live ceremony will air. Following the season’s first Daytime Emmys news, The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) announced that the 45th Annual Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards will take place on Friday April 27, 2018 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium at 300 E Green Street in Pasadena, California to honor those for their achievements in American television programming.

We wouldn’t be able to watch our soap operas daily without the hard work of those behind the scenes, including production designers, set decorators, costume designers, cinematographers, casting directors and sound editors. Other categories include set decoration, lighting, camera editing, music direction, best original song, stunt coordination and more.

As of yet, a recipient for the Lifetime Achievement Award hasn't been announced. As detailed in the General Rule Book, this prestigious award goes to "an individual, a company, or an organization for outstanding achievement in the arts, sciences, or management of television that is either of a cumulative nature or so extraordinary and universal in nature as to be beyond the scope of the awards presented in the categories of achievement. Members of the NATAS National Awards Committee accept nominations, and the Committee and NATAS Trustees choose the recipient(s). In recent years there have been recipients at both the Daytime Emmy® Awards and Daytime Creative Arts Emmy® ceremonies."

Soaps.com will return with future updates surrounding the event and which soap opera actors from "Bold and the Beautiful," "Days of our Lives," "General Hospital" and "The Young and the Restless" will be on hand to present awards. For now, take a look back at last year's 44th Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards winners.

"The Bold and the Beautiful" actress, Katherine Kelly Lang, recently shared a candid photo from the soap opera's Christmas episode shoot for this year, and it appears that Jennifer Gareis is in the photo behind her. This means Gareis' alter-ego, Donna Logan, could be back to visit for the holiday, or perhaps even longer, as she was pictured alongside Aaron D. Spears, who B&B recently put on contract, and who plays Donna's ex-husband, Justin. Take a look at the tweet below!

Gareis last appeared as Donna in October 2016, and also joined in The Bold and the Beautiful’s 30th anniversary celebration earlier this year.

Brad Bell Teases the Revolution Ahead for Thorne, the Avants & Sheila

A preview from B&B’s head writer.

“The Bold and the Beautiful” Executive Producer and Head Writer, Brad Bell, has been speaking out on what he has planned in the coming months for the soap opera, and Soaps.com learned what viewers can expect to see for Ingo Rademacher’s recast Thorne Forrester and other characters.

In a recent interview, Bell told TV Insider that Thorne will return from Europe, where he’s been Ridge-Brooke-Eric-Thorne-Thanksgiving-BB-HWworking with designers, looking to challenge Ridge, and explained, “He’s been putting pen to paper himself, so he’s moving right into Ridge’s territory. At first, he wants to be a part of the team but, upon hearing about Ridge’s indiscretion with Quinn (Rena Sofer) and the ongoing disrespect Ridge has for Eric (John McCook), it motivates him to take Ridge on—fully and wholeheartedly.” Eric and Rick (Jacob Young) will become involved in the work drama. Thorne will also be vying for Brooke’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) attentions as well, about which Bell commented, “Brooke is thrilled he’s back! Thorne is such a nice, decent guy, especially in contrast to Bill,” and added, “There’s no question there’s still an attraction.”

Other decisions were more up in the air. Though Bell confirmed he would not be recasting the roles of Thomas and Zende Forrester now, he was unsure about how and when characters such as Caroline Spencer (Linsey Godfrey) and Nicole Avant (Reign Edwards) might be used on the canvas again, and stated, “I think Nicole still has great The-Avants-Thanksgiving-set-BB-HWpotential but it’s either recast Zende or they have a big blowup and Nicole comes back to LA with Zende in her rear-view mirror. I’m still wrestling with that one.” As for Maya, the head writer hasn't come up with her next story just yet, and remarked, "We got great story out of Maya being transgender, and now she has transitioned into a happily married woman with a child and a wonderful life who has been accepted completely. That’s a great flag for her to carry until the next big story comes along—and I’m proud of it. The ultimate triumph is that she fits right in with everyone else." Bell also alluded to upcoming cast changes, and explained, “I will be bringing in some new characters. And we might see some favorites from the past. Casting is in progress.”

Bell went on to say that he hoped to continue with the Avant family, and was pleased with the establishment of the Spectra group, and explained, “They’ve provided us with a necessary element for drama—the have nots. You can’t have a show with all wealthy people.” The EP touched on Liam’s (Scott Clifton) love of playing the ‘white knight’ where Sally’s (Courtney Hope) concerned, and explained why it was easier for ‘rebel’ Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) to excuse Bill’s (Don Diamont) bad behavior, though he clarified, “Her commitment is to Liam and that will remain.”

The head writer was non-committal on where the relationship with Katie (Heather Tom) and Wyatt (Darin Brooks) was headed, and asked, “Why can’t we just have a couple who are friends with benefits? We’ll continue to explore this open relationship and celebrate a couple with no boundaries and open minds.”

As for Sheila (Kimberlin Brown), Bell teased, “We haven’t seen the last of Sheila. Until the next chapter, she is going to continue to work at the restaurant, continuing to hover. She always has a way back in.” He also acknowledged having to take a wait and see approach to Kimberlin Brown’s run for congress, and alluded to the possibility of bringing on Sheila’s daughter, Mary. He reflected, “We’ve been considering that. We haven’t seen Mary in many years. We know that she was really under her mother’s influence as a young girl but now she’s all grown up. It would be interesting to see who Mary is now—and who Sheila is as a mother.” In the meantime, expect Sheila to stick around, as Bell previewed, “Until the next chapter, she is going to continue to work at the restaurant, continuing to hover. She always has a way back in.”

Ratings UP

Y&R and B&B see largest audiences since the spring

by Dan J Kroll

Posted Wednesday, November 15, 2017

The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful have seen their ratings trend upwards during the November Sweeps period.

The good news continues for the four remaining soaps. Just a couple of weeks after Days of our Lives and General Hospital saw their ratings leap, the two CBS Daytime soaps also notched a ratings spike of their own.

For the week of November 6, The Young and the Restless averaged 4.62 million viewers, a figure that was up five percent from the previous week and the show's largest audience since May 19. The period was also the second full week of material with Mal Young serving as head writer.

The Bold and the Beautiful also got a boost. The half-hour soap's ratings jumped six percent from the week before to 3.70 million viewers. That total is the show's largest audience since February 24.

Spend the Holidays With Daytime's Biggest Families!

Updated: Nov 14, 2017 4:24 pm

By Chris Eades

The holidays are a time for families to get together and share the love as well as food and drink. Of course, in daytime, soap family gatherings are often ground zero for some juicy drama! Whether it's a heated confrontation, an emotional confession, or an embarrassing revelation, daytime celebrations are never boring! But which fictional family would be the best one to spend the holidays with? We took a look at some of the more prominent families on

BOLD AND HE BEAUTIFUL

So whether you're looking for a massive family celebration or an intimate gathering, drama-full or drama-free, check out our recommendations and see if you agree with them! And for more on your favorite daytime dramas — past and present — keep reading the CBS edition of Soaps In Depth magazine!

```````````````````````````````````````````````
The Forrester Family (B&B)
The Forresters have a lovely tradition where when they're all gathered around the table, they are supposed to say something nice about the person next to them. The thing is, that rule doesn't always apply when folks aren't sitting down to eat, so you can get an earful of gossip during cocktails! And if you're really lucky, Eric might lead a sing-along at the piano. Oh, but be sure to save room for dessert — Pam's lemon bars may not be a traditional holiday treat, but they're absolutely delicious!
GO HERE TO SEE THE PIC:
http://www.cbs.soapsindepth.com/post...y-party-146754
`````````````````````

The Spencer Family (B&B)

The problem with a Spencer family holiday gathering is that while Bill will spare no expense throwing a fabulous party, not a lot of people are going to RSVP. Brooke wants nothing to do with the man she married, and Liam can't stand the sight of his dad. Wyatt will show up, but he can't bring Katie because they don't want Bill to know about their relationship. So it'll basically just be Bill all by himself. Unless Steffy pops in to celebrate with him!

GO HERE TO SEE THE PIC:

``````````````````````````````````````
The Spectra Family (B&B)
While only two of these four people are actually related to each other, working for an underdog fashion house like Spectra has bonded them all together like family. There might be a little drama if Thomas decides to pop back into town to check on his investment (and Sally), but one thing's for sure, you won't have to worry about a dress code! Oh, and you'll want to keep Sally away from any baked goods — especially if Steffy's around — if you want to avoid any food fights!
Winsor Harmon Talks Leaving B&B as Thorne and Has a Message for Fans
Harmon graciously passes the torch to Ingo Rademacher.
Bold and the Beautiful MiscIn a move surprising many, Soaps.com reported in September that Ingo Rademacher had been recast in the role of Thorne Forrester on "The Bold and the Beautiful." Perhaps no one was more surprised than the role's portrayer of the past 21 years Winsor Harmon. The actor shared his thoughts on the switch in a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest.
Harmon learned he was being let go in a call from the show's executive producer Brad Bell. Explaining his surprise, Harmon related, "I was told there was a storyline coming and then [a month] later, I got the call from him that he was going to recast the role. So yeah, it was a bit of a shocker, I have to say."
A recast himself, taking over for Jeff Trachta who played Thorne from 1989 to 1996, Harmon made it clear that he understands the business he's in and that actors are "hired and we're fired on a daily basis." Therefore, he took the high road when it came to handing over the reins, much like he did on social media when the casting news was announced.
Wanting to focus on the positive, Harmon said he feels "blessed" to have had so many years on the top-rated show and to have made so many lasting connections with the "B&B" cast. Mentioning John McCook (Eric), Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke), Ronn Moss (ex-Ridge), Susan Flannery (ex-Stephanie) and Hunter Tylo (ex-Taylor), he noted, "These guys are in my life forever, and it's something that never would have happened if I had never been offered the role of Thorne on B&B."
As for Rademacher taking over the role, Harmon remained gracious, calling him a "phenomenal actor." Recalling the CBS picketers when he took over the role from Trachta, Harmon said, "All I'm saying to the fans is, don't hold something against Ingo. He's going to bring something new to the role that is going to be different and it will work. I have no doubts that it will work."
Episode# 4297After mentioning his former cast mates who reached out to him upon learning he was let go from "B&B," including McCook, Lang, Moss, Thorsten Kaye (Ridge), Harmon shared how important his former on-screen brother Moss is to him, calling him "one of the most important figures in my life."
The interview ended with some lighthearted musing that he could now take over Rademacher's former role of Jax on "General Hospital." While that remains to be seen, Harmon made sure to thank the fans, expressing, "The 'B&B' fans have been, are and will always be amazing."
Rademacher's first scenes as Thorne will air on November 27. While we wait for his take on the returning Forrester, share your thoughts with Soaps.com below about Harmon leaving and what you'd like to see for the character.
Jacqueline MacInnes Wood on Revisiting Steffy & Bill’s Attraction
A daytime pairing with staying power.
“The Bold and the Beautiful’s” Jacqueline MacInnes Wood spoke out about her alter-ego, Steffy Forrester’s most recent controversial storyline, in which she had sex with her husband Liam’s (Scott Clifton) father, Bill (Don Diamont), and Soaps.com learned the actress was excited to further explore the ongoing chemistry shared by the characters. Wood told Soap Opera Digest, “When it first happened, we touched on it lightly. They were this hot, passionate couple, but they weren’t even, really. They had a moment, but they didn’t have sex. But there was just something there.” She admits she was impressed by the loyalty of the pairing’s fanbase and reflected, “I think it’s so amazing that this was a relationship that didn’t develop past a certain point back in the day but there were fans so devoted to ‘Still’ and wanted that pairing over the years.” Of herself and Diamont she said, “We really wanted to keep that [chemistry] alive between the two of them, so when I was reading where we were going, I was very surprised and very excited.” She previewed, “All I know right now is it’s going to be an emotional rollercoaster for everyone.”
MacInnes also remarked on her character’s growth over her nearly 10 years on the soap, and stated, “She is coming into her own and I feel like she’s a woman now. She’s strong, and she’s not afraid to show her strength. I like that.”
The actress shared some personal updates, most significantly that she feels her boyfriend of almost a year, Elan Ruspoli, is ‘the one’, and explained, “We’re very in sync with each other. We push each other. We make each other better. I’ve found a little soulmate.” Wood, who celebrated her 30th birthday this year, shared her outlook on the milestone, “I feel like life is getting better and better,” and went on to say, “I don’t know why people freak out about getting older. That doesn’t bother me at all. Just like Steffy, I’m growing. I’m getting into my own, into who I really am.”
